What is this?
Omaolo is an electronic service and service channel for social welfare, health care and oral health care that supports self-care and directs the patient to appropriate assistance if necessary. The premise is the reform of the operating models for social and health services.
Omaolo allows users to easily assess what kind of care they need and to receive personal guidance to services in their municipality of residence.
Omaolo includes symptom assessments that assess the user’s state of health, a health examination and wellbeing coaching programmes that promote comprehensive wellbeing. Social welfare service assessments can be used to determine your eligibility for the services in question.
Omaolo is a medical device with a CE marking. Omaolo was granted a CE certificate in accordance with the requirements of EU Regulation 2017/745 (MDR) in May 2022. For the residents and health care and social welfare professionals who use Omaolo, the certificate communicates particularly good quality and safety as well as their documentation.
DigiFinland is responsible for developing and disseminating the service nationally.
Who are involved in the cooperation?
The service is developed in close cooperation by DigiFinland, Duodecim Publishing Company Ltd and all the municipalities, cities and hospital districts (FI & SV) that have introduced the service.
Solita Oy and Mediconsult Oy act as application developers and analytics partners of the Omaolo service.
What we do
Omaolo production, maintenance and support
Omaolo has been in production use since February 2019. We act as the manufacturer of the Omaolo service, and as a stakeholder are responsible for the production, maintenance and support of Omaolo in cooperation with selected suppliers. Service production complies with ISO:13485.
Further development of Omaolo
We are responsible for the further development of the Omaolo service, i.e. the implementation of new contents, functionalities and integrations in accordance with the Omaolo development plan i.e. roadmap. Development work is carried out in extensive cooperation with organisations that use Omaolo. The perspective of the service end user and feedback received are also a key part of the development of the service. The development of the service complies with ISO:13485.
Support for deployment
We support organisations in the deployment of the Omaolo service. The key principle for the deployment of the Omaolo service is that organisation will achieve benefits by altering their operations, not only by introducing a new digital service. Everything is based on the development of the activities, operating models and processes of the organisation that deploys the Omaolo service.
Where are we currently?
The scope of Omaolo expanded significantly during 2021, and by the end of the year, Omaolo had 4.3 million resident users, which amounts to 2.17 million more visitors than in 2020 (number of individual visitors calculated on a weekly basis). The wellbeing services counties using Omaolo have different Omaolo entities at their disposal, and there is a continuous expansion of their content and use.
During 2023, there have been several hoped-for and necessary updates to Omaolo that improve the resident’s user interface display and the functionality of the service. A new symptom checker titled “Dental or oral symptom or injury” was introduced in the service, and it works on the same principle as the other 16 existing symptom assessments. Omaolo now also includes a feature where you can reach out with Other contact for social welfare and health care matters that are not yet included in the Omaolo service offering.
In addition to the above-mentioned updates, the most significant changes in 2023 include the revamp of the Omaolo visual layout, including a new logo. The Omaolo product development process has also been updated. Version updates come in more frequent cycles now, which means that development and change proposals can be implemented at a faster pace.
