What is this?

Koronavilkku is an application produced by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), which informs its user of potential exposure to coronavirus. The mobile application and its related information system were introduced nationally on 1 September 2020.

DigiFinland is responsible for the national deployment of Koronavilkku in public health care organisations. In addition, the Omaolo service developed by the company serves as an electronic contact channel for persons who have received an exposure notification via Koronavilkku in the Omaolo areas. We have also implemented the unlock code interface in connection with the exposure notification process in the Koronavilkku application.

Who are involved in the cooperation?

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare is responsible for the implementation of the application. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, KELA and DigiFinland are involved in the application’s development work. Solita Oy is responsible for the technical implementation of the application.

What we do

Koronavilkku and the Omaolo service

DigiFinland has produced a separate user interface in the Omaolo service, which health care professionals use to create and send unlocking codes to those who test positive for coronavirus. The Omaolo service also serves as an electronic service channel from the Koronavilkku app to health care; recipients of an exposure notification can fill out a symptom assessment for the coronavirus disease in Omaolo or can submit an electronic request for contact to health care. In some regions, a person who has received an exposure notification can manage the entire service process electronically from the Koronavilkku exposure notification to booking a laboratory appointment.

Support for deployment

We support public health care organisations in the deployment of Koronavilkku. In August-September, we held a training package that introduced new operating models and processes to public health care organisations. Read the training material here (FI & SV) >

Where are we currently?

Koronavilkku and its related Omaolo functionalities have been in operation for about six months now. The production process is calm and further development being planned and has already been implemented in part

At the beginning of January, the Koronavilkku project introduced EU interoperability with similar applications in other EU countries. We are constantly working to optimise and enhance the benefits of Koronavilkku.
